Why BoatPass exists
When I started studying, I asked friends who already had their license. Their verdict was almost always the same: there are apps with good content – but none that make studying on your phone actually enjoyable. Clunky menus, uninspired interfaces, questions you just memorize by rote.
That stuck with me. I've been building apps in my spare time for years – BoatPass is my passion project alongside my day job. So I built the app I wish I'd had: one that makes studying on your phone genuinely enjoyable – and that's backed by the expertise of experienced skippers.
What matters to me
Studying theory for the boating license shouldn't feel like a chore. You should enjoy learning and make fast progress. That's why every question comes with clear explanations and memory aids – instead of just „right/wrong“. The material sticks, and you get out on the water sooner.
Built with experienced skippers
Good design is one half – content that holds water is the other. That's why the explanations and memory aids in BoatPass aren't written in isolation: they're developed and cross-checked together with experienced skippers and boat operators who have years of hands-on practice on inland and coastal waters.
So BoatPass combines two perspectives: that of a developer who thought through every tap on your phone to make learning effortless – and the knowledge of experienced skippers who have spent years out on the water. So you can rely on every question and every explanation.
